How to: Diagram an accident scene

If you have an auto accident, you'll need to submit a diagram of what happened to your insurance company. Here's how to easily construct it online using drag and drop icons. Best of all, it's free.

1 Go to accidentsketch.com. Watch the two brief instructional videos. Though the text in them is in German (the site's text is in English), just watching the videos will give you an idea of how to create your sketch.

2 Reconstruct the accident scene by dragging the relevant road pieces, signs, vehicles and text labels onto the graph. Zoom in or out using the ratio scale on the top left. Use the arrows along the sketch perimeter to move to different areas.

3 When your diagram in complete, click Print/e-mail depiction. At the top of your sketch, fill in a description of how the accident occurred. Click Print Your Sketch to finish. If you are e-mailing it, you'll need Adobe Acrobat 9 to save the accident report details.
