Review: 'Kinect Disneyland Adventures'

No matter how old you are, you probably won't ever forget the first time you visited a Disney theme park, primarily Disneyland. Nothing beats stepping into the Magic Kingdom for the first time and taking in all the sights and sounds, whether you're riding the Matterhorn or giving Mickey Mouse a hug. (C'mon, you know you did it.) Not everyone can afford a trip right away, though, so it's nice to see we have a digital alternative that's just as magical, even if you don't have a pair of mouse ears at the end of the day.

"Kinect Disneyland Adventures" takes you on a guided virtual tour of the park, as you run through using motion controls and take part in a number of activities that let you feel every aspect of the Magic Kingdom. While we wouldn't call it a flawless experience, it is a lot more fun than we thought it would be.

You begin by working your way through the park at first, running across Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy as you complete side tasks for them, including finding a camera and getting an autograph. That seems a little gimmicky, sure, but you're also given other things you can do around the park, being guided by a flashing beam path in case you want to get back on task. And you also have the option of doing a little something extra for each character, like giving them a hug. Kids will absolutely adore the reaction they get from everyone, particularly Goofy. Garsh!

As you get further into Disneyland, you'll find a number of interactive mini-games that make fine use of the Kinect device. One scene even has you taking on a sword fight with Captain Hook, and working better than anything we've experienced in "Kinect Star Wars" to date. (That's really saying something.) Other activities include flying through Neverland, riding in a wild African safari, and other games based on the Disney rides. We wouldn't call them the most immersive activities, but they are enjoyable, and will keep you happily distracted for some time.
