Honda's latest hybrid, the 2011 CR-Z, attempts to be both sporty and a hybrid, and it has middling success at each. When it goes on sale Aug. 24, the CR-Z will be the first hybrid in six model years to offer a manual transmission; it will also be available with a continuously variable automatic transmission.

The next time you fill up at the pump, you'll want to make sure that you don't fall for these myths. Myth: Using premium gas will make my car perform better. You're not going to do any good by filling up with premium gas if your car's manufacturer doesn't require or recommend it. Myth: It's better to fill up in the morning or at night because you'll get more fuel. We've heard this one for years.

Ask Cars.com: BMW 1 Series replaces Z4 in price point

Q: What's the MSRP for a BMW Z4 30si? A: You won't get an argument from us about the Z4 making a big price jump with the current generation, which debuted for the 2009 model year. Our reports on the Z4 have noted that loaded versions get into the ritzy price territory of the Mercedes-Benz SLK, Audi TT and Porsche Boxster.

F-150, Silverado drop off American-Made Index; Dodge Ram earns first entry onto list

Once American-Made Index mainstays, Detroit pickup trucks had a weak showing this year. As recently as the 2007 model year, the Silverado 1500 and its GMC Sierra 1500 sibling were rated at 90 percent for domestic parts content. That's not the case anymore. That's not to say Detroit pickups are off the list for good. © 2010, Cars.com.

Funky TL works for families; Fun-to-drive Acura not necessarily a family car but gets job done

The 2010 Acura TL is a sporty sedan that's great fun to drive, but it doesn't exactly bend over backward to accommodate families. My test car, which was the higher trim level, cost $42,385; the base model has an MSRP of $35,105. With its Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, the TL clings to the road while the V-6 engine launches you down it.

Autoblog is in South Korea test-driving Hyundai's upcoming Sonata Turbo, and while the Web site can't reveal anything about the driving experience, it has discovered one nugget. While that's not as fast as some V-6 counterparts, it is close and the fact that the mileage is so high makes up for it. © 2010, Cars.com.

2011 Ford Mustang goes 776 miles on one tank

The 2011 Ford Mustang is the first car with more than 300 horsepower to get over 30 mpg on the highway, and a Ford team recently proved it can do even better: It stretched one 16-gallon tank of gas to 776.5 miles. If you're not a mathematician, that's 48.5 mpg, which rivals numbers put up by today's most efficient hybrids like the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius.
