Ask Cars.com: Driving in 3rd gear probably didn't hurt RAV4

Q: Has our engine been affected by driving in 3rd gear at about 70 mph? A: Your engine shouldn't be affected by that oversight, and we hope your marriage wasn't, either. It would appear you have a four-cylinder RAV4 with a four-speed automatic, and our guess is that running in 3rd gear boosted your engine speed by 500 rpm or so.

Ford introduces three light-duty engines for 2011 F-150 pickups

The best-selling half-ton truck in the country is getting an all-new engine lineup for 2011. 3.7-liter V-6. Ford dropped its old 4.2-liter V-6 from the F-150 lineup after 2008 -- offering only V-8 engines -- because even its two-valve 4.6-liter V-8 with a four-speed automatic was less thirsty yet delivered more power. But for 2011, V-6 is no longer a dirty word when it comes to full-size pickups.
